Understand the product
Different nuts and seeds can have different oil content, aromas, particle sizes and handling needs. Roasted, seasoned, raw and mixed products may require different packaging considerations.
Share whether the product is whole, chopped, powdered or mixed, along with the target shelf life and storage conditions.
Evaluate barrier and seal requirements
The material structure should be evaluated for the protection needed by the specific product. Oxygen and moisture management, seal integrity and resistance to handling damage can all matter.
The required performance should be confirmed through suitable technical review and, where appropriate, product or package testing.
Choose a convenient pouch format
Stand-up zipper pouches are a common option for retail nuts and seeds because they can provide shelf presence and resealability. Other formats may suit single-serve packs, bulk products or automated packing lines.
Consider zipper placement, opening width, bottom stability, tear notch and whether a window is appropriate for the product and brand.
Match dimensions to the fill weight
Do not select pouch dimensions from fill weight alone. Product density, shape, headspace and desired appearance affect the finished pack. A filled sample is useful for confirming the dimensions and shelf presentation.
For rollstock applications, discuss the forming and sealing conditions with the packaging supplier and equipment provider.
